Pastor Shohei shared his testimony with the staff of The Orchard, and how he has seen God work through the ministry of the Welcome Desk.

Every Saturday and Sunday, I stand by the Welcome Desk to greet new guests at our church. Over the past month, I’ve noticed more and more new faces attending. Since I’m always there, I can easily recognize who is new and make them feel welcome.

I am so thankful that Christ Jesus is working in their hearts, drawing them to church. I also want to express my gratitude to Pastor Tom and Griffin for their dedication in providing quality services. Many of our new guests appreciate our style of worship and teaching!

One of our new guests, who comes from a Catholic background, shared his powerful testimony with me. He had a successful career and built a good life for his family. However, he endured a painful divorce, battled cancer three times, and faced many struggles as his children's lives became very difficult. He told me, "I used to believe that I could manage my life through my own strength. But then, my sister, a faithful Christian, gave me a Bible long ago. It had just been sitting on my shelf, untouched. One day, I finally picked it up and began reading—and I ended up reading almost the entire Bible." Later, a friend encouraged him to visit The Orchard. When he first attended, Pastor Tom was preaching on 2 Corinthians as part of a sermon series. In recent months, 2 Corinthians 12:7 had already been speaking to his heart, and now, hearing Pastor Tom preach on it felt like a confirmation from God. He shared, "I truly realized that Christ’s hands were on me, guiding me and calling me to obedience. Now, I am in the process of becoming a member of the church and preparing to be baptized."

Serving at the Welcome Desk has given me the privilege of witnessing how God is actively drawing people to Himself, one by one. It’s humbling and encouraging to see how simple moments of greeting and listening can open doors for deeper connection and spiritual growth. I’m grateful to be part of how God is working through our Welcome Team during the weekend services.

I also know there are countless stories—many that I may never hear—of how our faithful Welcome Team volunteers are prayerfully serving, welcoming, and caring for each person who walks through our doors. God is using their quiet acts of kindness in powerful ways.

The Orchard Itasca shared the following testimony about Kenny's baptism during their weekly Sunday service. Kenny is a resident of the Forest View Nursing and Rehab Facility in Itasca where our people have been ministering for the past two years. Kenny and his friend, Karen now regularly attend services, and Kenny was baptized on Sunday, September 28. We rejoice in the fruit that is being born through this ministry! We are also excited that one of the couples who regularly participates in the ministry has plans to offer a Bible study at the facility. We pray that The Orchard Itasca will continue to bring light and hope to the residents and staff!

The Orchard Itasca shared the following testimony about how they are ministering at Forest View Nursing Home. A man named Christian is a resident at the Forest View Nursing Home where our people go to minister quarterly. He likely has some form of Parkinson’s Disease and because of this has lost most of the function in his hands and feet. Some of our people have visited with Christian on previous trips. At our July visit, a couple from our church Mike and Deb Marunde went to his room. Since it had been a few months since our last visit, they didn’t think he would remember them. However, when they introduced themselves, Christian looked up and said “Mike!” He remembered! He looked at Mike and said, “I miss you.”

David Althoff from The Orchard Barrington shared the following testimony about how he has seen God work in his life at his baptism. For most of my life, I carried the weight of the world on my shoulders. I believed in Jesus, but only in an intellectual way, shaped more by church tradition than by a personal relationship with Him. I thought my success, security, and happiness depended entirely on my own efforts. I worked tirelessly to provide for my family, to control outcomes, and to fix every challenge that came my way. Sin wasn’t something I thought about because I measured life by my own standards, not God’s.
